The Whitsundays & Airlie Beach

In the heart of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef, lies Meridien Marina Abel Point, Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays - 74 Islands floating like jewels in the tropical warm waters of the Coral Sea.

Only eight of the islands are home to secluded resorts, the rest are untouched hideaways of white sand and lush greenery. Many islands are National Parks with exceptional deserted beaches, safe anchorages, privacy and freedom and superb snorkelling and diving waters.

Visitors are attracted to the beauty of the region, to superb dive and fishing sites, to the rainforest walks and of course to The Great Barrier Reef.

Discovering the Great Barrier Reef is one of life's must-dos and it's easily accessible from the marina. Experiencing this paradise is what it's all about. Sail, snorkel, dive, ski or swim in the calm blue seas or take off on a scenic flight over the reef.

The Whitsunday Coast is an idyllic playground lapped by the Coral Sea. The vibrant resort town of Airlie Beach has a range of places to lay your head from budget to boutique; year-round swimming in the lagoon; and a tropical, cosmopolitan waterfront lifestyle with al fresco cafes, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shops and boutiques.

Spend the day exploring the pure white silica sands of Whitehaven, one of the world's best beaches, or take a sailing boat on a day cruise. Paddle a sea kayak gracefully through the blue, follow bushwalking trails overlooking the Coral Sea or simply relax with a cocktail by the pool.

The Whitsunday region has a warm sub-tropical climate with mild sunny winters and warm to hot summers. The mid winter average daily temperature is 23 degrees centigrade rising to an average of 31 degrees centigrade in January. Most of the area’s rain falls from January to March and much of the rain falls at night.

The water is a swimmable temperature all year round and the tropical Coral Sea is an intense turquoise deepening to emerald and the sky is a vibrant blue.

The nearest airport to the marina is Proserpine, approximately 20 minutes by road from the marina. Jetstar and Virgin Airlines fly daily into Proserpine from most of the major Australian cities.
